9. Sodium Benzoate in Coke Triggers Cell Mutation and Cancer
Coca-Cola has, in the past, announced the removal of the controversial sodium benzoate in its products, but that’s not true. The company retracted from its initial plans of removing the dangerous additive after Canadian Health Protection Branch and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that sodium benzoate is acceptable, but only when consumed in very low amounts. Well, we probably all know that it is present in several natural foods such as cinnamon, apples, berries, and others, but in extremely low levels. The scary part is; lab-synthesized sodium benzoate that’s commonly used in soft drinks is very harmful and can cause cell mutation and cancer.
